The Consell de Govern has approved the declaration of regional interest for the comprehensive renovation project of the La Victòria Youth Hostel in Alcúdia. The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Families, Social Welfare, and Dependency Care, will streamline the administrative process to ensure the reopening of this emblematic facility for young people in the Balearic Islands.

Comprehensive renovation of La Victòria Youth Hostel declared of regional interest

Owned by Alcúdia Town Council and managed by IBJOVE, the hostel has more than sixty years of history providing accommodation and educational activities for children, youth groups, and schools. With a capacity of around 200 beds, it has become a benchmark in leisure education and values-based learning.

Partially closed since 2019 due to safety concerns, the building requires a full renovation. The project, with a total budget of €10.7 million, aims to modernise the facilities, adapt them to current standards on accessibility, safety, and energy efficiency, and enable year-round use. Special attention will be given to reducing water and energy consumption, particularly important given that La Victòria is located in a protected natural area (ANEI).

Once reopened, the hostel is expected to welcome over 20,000 children and young people from the Balearic Islands each year. It will remain the only public youth hostel on the island of Mallorca, following the closure of the Platja de Palma hostel in 2012. Its historical, cultural, and environmental significance further reinforces the importance of preserving the site for future generations.

The declaration of regional interest will also help to extend the use of the hostel beyond the tourist season, offering new educational and social opportunities throughout the year.
