The incorporation of general health psychologists into schools in the Balearic Islands has received widespread approval from the educational community. Launched by the Department of Education and Universities during the 2024–2025 school year, this pioneering initiative is now seen as a key resource for addressing students’ emotional needs.
For the 2025–2026 school year, the program has been expanded with three additional professionals, bringing the total to 79 psychologists: 43 in public schools and 36 in charter schools. At today’s meeting in Palma, organised by Convivèxit, Minister Antoni Vera praised the initiative, underlining that students’ emotional well-being is fundamental to achieving educational goals.

Strong positive feedback for the introduction of health psychologists in Balearic schools
The first evaluation shows a significant impact: 5,851 individual interventions were carried out (3,519 with students and 814 with families), with an average age of 14 among those attended. The main issues addressed were anxiety, family-related difficulties, and relationship problems. Results indicate that 76.19% of cases improved after intervention, while families rated the service 4.2 out of 5.
Collaboration with external services has also been crucial: 358 referrals to Primary Care, 507 coordinated cases with mental health services, and over 1,100 additional referrals to other resources. On a group level, 1,486 sessions were conducted, reaching nearly 20,000 people, including students, families, and teaching staff.
A broad survey with 12,026 responses recorded an average satisfaction score of 4.07 out of 5. The most frequent concerns reported were anxiety, stress, self-esteem, technology addictions, and bullying.
The Department has confirmed that it will continue to strengthen and expand this service, recognizing it as an essential tool for ensuring psychological well-being in schools.
