Vocational education and training (VET) students and teachers from various educational centres in the Balearic Islands have begun their preparations for Spainskills 2026, the national VET competition that will take place at IFEMA in Madrid from 24 to 28 February 2026.

The preparation process started with a working session held at the CampusEsport facilities of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in Palma. This initial meeting aimed to strengthen group cohesion, encourage interaction among participants and define the strategic guidelines for the upcoming competition.

The session brought together the students who won the Balearskills 2025 competition and will represent the Balearic Islands at the national level, along with their tutors, coordinators and representatives from the Planning and Participation Service of the Directorate General for Vocational Training and Educational Planning.

Spainskills is a nationwide competition designed to test the technical knowledge and practical skills of vocational training students across a wide range of professional fields. In the 2026 edition, the Balearic Islands will be represented in 20 different skill categories. Winners of the national competition will have the opportunity to represent Spain at international events such as Euroskills and Worldskills.

The Balearic Islands’ team for Spainskills 2026 includes students from educational centres across the archipelago, competing in disciplines such as vehicle body repair, plumbing and heating, web development, electrical installations, floristry, hairdressing, beauty therapy, automotive technology, cooking, restaurant and bar service, landscape gardening, refrigeration and air conditioning, network systems administration, social care, visual merchandising, bakery, hotel reception, renewable energies, and pharmacy and para-pharmacy.

This initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote excellence in vocational education and training and is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, with co-financing from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), under the Education, Training, Employment and Social Economy Operational Programme (ÉFESO) for the 2021–2027 period.
