The Balearic Islands and the Dominican Republic have strengthened their strategic tourism partnership through the signing of a framework agreement at FITUR 2026, aiming to lead tourism knowledge exchange, excellence in training, and technology transfer.
The agreement was signed by the Govern de les Illes Balears and the Ministerio de Turismo de la República Dominicana, reinforcing cooperation focused on professionalising the tourism sector and attracting international talent.
Institutional and industry cooperation
The partnership also includes the Escuela de Hostelería de las Illes Balears (EHIB), the Instituto Nacional de Formación Técnico Profesional (INFOTEP), Asociación de Inversores de Ámbito Internacional (INVEROTEL) and Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana (ASONAHORES).
The presentation was attended by Margalida Prohens, President of the Balearic Islands, and Jaume Bauzá, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sports.

The alliance seeks to leverage the global leadership of both destinations by promoting joint initiatives in applied research, technological development, and tourism innovation, generating positive economic and social impact.
A key pillar of the agreement is education and talent development, including:
- Scholarships and professional training placements
- Joint educational programs between tourism schools
- Talent attraction and retention strategies to ensure service excellence
The Balearic Islands will also share expertise in tourism regulation, sector planning, and public-private partnerships, supporting sustainable growth, sports tourism, and sustainable luxury tourism.
President Prohens stated that the agreement “builds a tourism innovation bridge between two leading destinations, combining Balearic expertise with Dominican dynamism to shape a more responsible and professional tourism model.”
