The Government of the Balearic Islands will invest a total of €82.4 million to create 693 new public places for people in a situation of dependency under the Socio-Health Infrastructure Plan 2026–2030. The strategic plan was presented in Sant Josep de sa Talaia by the Minister for Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care, Sandra Fernández, and sets out the roadmap for the structured expansion of the public socio-healthcare network across the archipelago.

The plan includes 18 new initiatives designed to strengthen public care services through a range of support levels. Of the total number of places, 335 will be residential, 250 will correspond to day care centres and, for the first time, 108 will be allocated to supervised housing. This new resource is intended to promote personal autonomy and independent living while ensuring appropriate support for dependent individuals.

Investment has been distributed according to territorial balance and actual demand. In Mallorca, 12 new facilities will be developed, providing 553 places with an investment of €67.2 million. Menorca will see two new infrastructures delivering 50 places and an investment of €9.6 million. In Ibiza, three projects will create 90 places with a budget of €5.5 million, while in Formentera, improvements will be made to the exterior facilities of the island’s residences.

The Socio-Health Infrastructure Plan 2026–2030 forms part of the Illes en Transformació strategic programme and is based on a comprehensive assessment of the public social services system, including current coverage, occupancy levels and waiting lists across municipalities. Implementation will be carried out through the Balearic Islands Socio-Health and Care Resources Consortium, which will oversee the construction, expansion and adaptation of facilities.

The plan aims to strengthen the public dependency care network, reduce waiting lists, ensure territorial equity and bring services closer to citizens, avoiding unnecessary travel between municipalities and islands. It also reinforces a person-centred care model, adapting resources to present and future demographic needs and supporting individuals to remain in their usual environment for as long as possible.
