The Consorci de Transports de Mallorca has awarded the contract for the refurbishment of the user service office at Palma’s Intermodal Station, marking a significant step in the modernization of one of the Balearic Islands’ key public transport hubs. This initiative forms part of the first comprehensive renovation of the station in nearly twenty years, aimed at aligning infrastructure with current mobility demands.

The project will fully transform the existing office into a larger, more functional and user-friendly space. Planned improvements include the installation of counters at varying heights to ensure universal accessibility, as well as upgraded waiting areas designed to deliver faster, more comfortable and efficient customer service. Construction works will take place over the coming months, with completion expected in the final quarter of the year. The contract has been awarded for 150,497.90 euros, excluding VAT.

This intervention is part of a broader renovation plan promoted by the Government of the Balearic Islands, representing the first major upgrade to the Intermodal Station since its inauguration in 2007. The initiative aims to create a fully accessible, safe and modern environment that meets the needs of all users, including individuals with reduced mobility, while enhancing both the functionality and visual appeal of the facilities.

Ongoing works also include the installation of new escalators, improved ventilation systems in bus platforms, renovated restrooms, updated signage and new digital information screens. To ensure uninterrupted service, the project is being carried out in phases.

These improvements, implemented through the Consorci de Transports de Mallorca and Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca, respond to the sustained growth in public transport usage. Passenger numbers at the station have increased significantly, rising from 5.8 million in 2019 to 16.5 million in 2025, highlighting the need for continuous infrastructure adaptation.

As part of the “Islands in Transformation” infrastructure plan, the total investment amounts to 3.6 million euros, largely financed through the insularity factor and complemented by European Recovery and Resilience funds, reinforcing the commitment to a more efficient and sustainable transport system.
