The State Meteorological Agency will activate a dedicated weather forecasting service ahead of the total solar eclipse on 12 August, providing enhanced meteorological information to support both safe observation of the event and the organisation of public safety measures. From 7 August onwards, the agency will publish a daily updated bulletin covering weather conditions across Spain, with particular attention to adverse weather events, maximum temperatures and wildfire risk levels.

A key feature of the forecasts will be detailed cloud cover predictions, one of the most important factors for successfully viewing the eclipse. As the event approaches, forecast accuracy will increase, helping identify the areas with the highest probability of clear skies. This information will also be available through an interactive online viewer created specifically for monitoring the eclipse.

Aemet to issue a special weather forecast for the total solar eclipse on 12 August

The agency will reinforce its public information campaign by publishing weather infographics and issuing official weather warnings whenever conditions require, ensuring that citizens have access to clear, up-to-date and reliable information during the days leading up to the astronomical event.

Alongside its public forecasting service, Aemet will work closely with national and regional Civil Protection authorities, supplying detailed weather information to support emergency planning and operational coordination. With a significant influx of visitors expected in natural areas across the country, accurate meteorological forecasting will play a crucial role in improving safety, managing public movement and reducing risks throughout this exceptional scientific event.
