The Government of the Balearic Islands has approved the nomination process for the 2027 Gold Medal of the Autonomous Community and the Ramon Llull Award. Balearic Islands open nominations for the 2027 Gold Medal and Ramon Llull Awards. What the two awards recognise

The Gold Medal of the Autonomous Community honours individuals and organisations whose personal or professional achievements have contributed to defending, promoting or advancing the institutions and general interests of the Balearic Islands.

To qualify, their work must also have achieved particular recognition or reach beyond the territory of the Balearic Islands.

The Ramon Llull Award has a different scope. It recognises outstanding services provided within the Balearic Islands across a range of fields, including culture, sport, law, business, civic affairs, humanitarian work, research, education and language.

Both distinctions may be awarded to individuals or groups, as well as public or private legal entities. Separate nominations are required for each award because they recognise different types of achievements and service.

Who is eligible to nominate candidates?

Public administrations, public-sector bodies, associations, organisations representing economic or social interests, and individual or collective applicants may submit nominations.

The rules prohibit self-nominations. An organisation or collective body is also prevented from nominating a person who serves on its governing bodies.

Serving authorities of the Spanish State or the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands are ineligible to receive either distinction, with the exception of His Majesty the King.

People convicted of a criminal offence by a final court judgment are also excluded.

Three ways to submit a nomination

Candidates may be proposed through the dedicated Balearic Islands Day website. This procedure does not require a digital certificate or electronic national identity document and provides confirmation that the submission has been received.

Nominations may alternatively be filed through the Balearic Islands Government’s Electronic Office. Applicants using this system must attach an electronically signed form and authenticate themselves with a digital certificate, electronic national identity document or advanced-level Cl@ve Permanente.

In-person applications are also accepted from individuals who are not legally required to communicate electronically with public administrations under Spanish Law 39/2015 of 1 October.

These applications must be addressed to the Directorate-General for Institutional Relations and Relations with Parliament, identified by the administrative code DIR3 A04044054.

Documents may be submitted at the registry office on Passeig de Sagrera, 2, in Palma, or through any of the other authorised registration channels established by Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015.

Separate application forms for the Gold Medal and the Ramon Llull Award are available through the Electronic Office and the Directorate-General’s website.

The nomination period closes on 15 December 2026.
