Shopkeepers in the centre of Palma on the warpath

The Palma Town Hall has proposed making the entire city centre pedestrianised, against the opinion of local residents and shopkeepers, who yesterday demonstrated against the measure because they consider that if it is carried out it will be their ruin, as no one will be able to circulate or park in the city centre.
This will directly harm shops, bars and restaurants, but also the local residents, who will have much more trouble parking and getting to schools, hospitals, supermarkets and other services that have been gradually disappearing from the most central streets of Palma. In fact, more and more residents are leaving the neighbourhood, which is causing many of them to become tourist rentals.
The problem is aggravated by the fact that the public transport service is insufficient and parking areas are so scarce that even residents with ACIRE have to drive around a lot to find a place to leave their vehicle.
