The Directorate General of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior, in accordance with the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), warns of the risk of forest fires and high temperatures in several areas of the country, including the Balearic Islands.

According to the forecasts, maximum temperatures could reach over 40ºC in the Vega del Segura-Murcia during the days of today, Friday and tomorrow, Saturday.

During Friday and Saturday, the Guadalquivir valley, the southeast of the peninsula and areas of the Balearic Islands will also be particularly affected by high temperatures.

There is a practically generalised risk of forest fires throughout the country. It is necessary to take extreme precautions to avoid their appearance.

Health, for its part, has activated the National Plan of Preventive Actions for High Temperatures to reduce its associated effects, coordinate the institutions of the State Administration and propose actions that can be carried out by the Autonomous Communities and the Local Administration.

Advice to the general population:

Limit your exposure to the sun and avoid prolonged physical activity in the central hours of the day. Drink plenty of water or fluids and eat light, regular meals. Wear light-coloured clothing and protect your head.

Take an interest in the most at-risk population such as children, the elderly and the sick. Never leave children, elderly people or animals inside a vehicle.
