Operation against illegal nautical charters in Sant Antoni

Aug 7, 2021 | Current affairs, Featured

The first coordinated operation between different administrations and the Guardia Civil against illegal nautical charters carried out in Sant Antoni (Eivissa), has culminated in 11 proposed sanctions.

The success of the operation suggests that this campaign will be carried out in different ports of the Balearic Islands.

In the Balearic Islands as a whole, up to the end of July, a total of 25 sanctioning proceedings had been opened, more than in the whole of 2020.

The joint operation has involved different public bodies with competence in the control and surveillance of the maritime-terrestrial domain with the aim of intensifying the fight against illegal nautical charters. The operation took place this week in the port and in the bay of Sant Antoni de Portmany.

The aim of this coordinated exercise was to control and inspect irregular activities related to the commercial activity of passenger transport, anchoring in illegal areas or picking up people at unauthorised points. Checks were also carried out on documentation and permits, as well as on skippers’ licences.

The device has had the participation of two inspectors from the Maritime Captaincy of Eivissa and Formentera; Civil Guard, a patrol of the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS), a patrol of the Tax and Border Patrol, and a land patrol; a technician from the Directorate General of Maritime and Air Transport of the Balearic Government, the head of the Delegation of Coasts for Eivissa and a team of staff of Ports IB consisting of 5 dock guards and the head of the port of Sant Antoni.
