As of Monday 24 January, applications can be made for the various grants aimed at promoting the establishment, growth and improvement of the productive sectors of the Balearic Islands, for a total amount of 4.7 million euros.
The aid, managed by the Directorate General for Industrial Policy, attached to the Vice-Presidency and Regional Ministry for Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, is divided into two calls for applications:
Aid to support large investment actions (€1,000,000).
Grants to support modernisation and digitalisation (€3,700,000).
It should be noted that the deadline for submitting applications is one month from 24 January 2022.
The first line, endowed with an amount of €1,000,000, will be articulated as a grant with an aid intensity of 50%, with a maximum amount of €200,000 per application, which corresponds to the maximum public stimulus in accordance with the European Union regulation.
All SMEs included in section C (manufacturing industries) of the classification of economic activities CNAE 2009 and video game publishing companies CNAE 5821 may be beneficiaries of this aid. The investment proposals must include the maintenance of the current workforce and the net creation of jobs, as well as a minimum investment of €100,000 and €25,000, respectively. Applications will be assessed by an evaluation committee on a competitive basis and not on a first-come, first-served basis. The eligible period for this aid will be between 11 November 2021 and 10 November 2022.
The second line, with a budget of €3,700,000, takes the form of a 50% grant under the following programmes:

Design and innovation: this includes as eligible actions the cost of external contracting of industrial design and innovation projects (consultancy, technology centres, universities, etc.) aimed at acquiring new knowledge to develop new products, processes, services and/or prototypes. Investment over €2,000, maximum amount €10,000.
Programme II. Production: programme aimed at competitive improvement through technological improvement. Investment over €5,000, maximum amount €20,000.
Programme III. Digitalisation: programme aimed at competitive improvement in relation to the advantages of Industry 4.0 and digitalisation. Investment over €5,000, maximum amount €20,000.
These applications will be resolved in strict order of entry. The eligible period for this aid will be between 11 November 2021 and 24 September 2022.
In the current context, once the most incipient stage of the health crisis resulting from COVID-19 has been overcome, it is essential to promote economic recovery through public support for industrial business investments characterised by requiring high levels of private investment which, without the activation of public stimulus policies, will be difficult for our productive fabric to undertake.
The Director General of Industrial Policy, Antoni Morro, stressed that “the Government of the Balearic Islands is aware of these challenges caused by the pandemic and the lessons learned; for this reason, it has decided to adopt this set of programmes aimed at improving our production model to move towards a more resilient, sustainable and cohesive model, because they favour the expansion, development, modernisation and competitiveness of industrial activity”.
Morro also pointed out that “the longed-for diversification will not come about spontaneously by simply saying it many times. We must promote active policies such as today’s, oriented towards the improvement and plausible growth of other sectors, consistent with our territory, where circularity and SMEs are the main protagonists.
It should be noted that these subsidies are included in the Strategic Subsidy Plan of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands for the years 2018-2020, approved by the Agreement of the Consell de Govern of 9 March 2018 (BOIB no. 31, of 10 March) and extended by the Agreement of the Consell de Govern of 25 January 2021 (BOIB no. 11, of 26 January).
