14 researchers will benefit from these grants

The Ministry of European Funds, University and Culture grants subsidies to research and technological development centres in the Balearic Islands for a value of €1,344,490.

“The Government is clearly committed to promoting the scientific community as a model of economic diversification based on knowledge,” explained the minister, Miquel Company.

The aim is to hire 14 trainee researchers to do a doctoral thesis in research centres or units and companies located in the region. Those selected had to present a scientific and technical research project for university graduates on different subjects, including the following: climate change actions related to oceanography, botany and inorganic chemistry; the circular economy and agricultural and fishing activity focused on wild animals or horticulture; demographic change and health in the biochemistry and molecular biology sector; atmospheric sciences, or literary theory, analysis and criticism. The subjects of these 14 research projects are included in the Science, Technology and Innovation Plan (CTI Plan).

There are two types of aid for the beneficiaries: the first is for the training of research personnel and the second is for the training of business research personnel. Thus, 12 grants are awarded for the training of research personnel (modality A) and 2 grants for the training of business research personnel (modality B). Among the researchers, 71.4% are women and 28.6% are men.

The beneficiary entities of modality A are the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Balearic Islands Health Research Institute Foundation (IDISBA). On the other hand, in modality B the beneficiary entity is the company Sanifit Therapeutics, SA.
