Inca Town Council is relaunching the So na Monda second-hand market, which will be held every Sunday in the Plaça del Ganat, from 9 am to 1 pm. “The recovery of this market arises from popular demand with the intention of promoting sustainability and circular economy. We are also promoting the dynamisation of the city,” explains the mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno.

In this sense, the Councillor for Markets, María José Fernández explains that “we have incorporated important new features to promote reuse and responsible consumption with the private sale of second-hand objects. Moreover, from now on, you can also sell leftover stock”.

Thus, the Mercat dels Encants, which returns next Sunday 18 September, is a second-hand market open to everyone. On the one hand, the traditional flea market with the sale of antiques, collectables and second-hand products is maintained. On the other hand, as a novelty, the exhibition and sale of handicrafts of our own production will now also be allowed. In addition, shop owners will be able to sell leftover stock.

Therefore, the market is open to the participation of occasional sellers such as small traders who want to sell the leftover stock after the closure of their establishment or individuals who wish to give a second life to objects they no longer use. “In this way, 20% of the space is reserved for occasional or casual sellers in order to encourage the participation of all citizens and to ensure that the market offers new and varied products every week”, explains Fernández.

Finally, it should also be noted that the new ordinance emphasises the layout and positioning of awnings and stalls. All products will have to be placed on counters no less than 60 cm high and materials may not be placed outside the allotted space. Therefore, from now on, the sale of goods directly on the ground or pavement is not allowed.

The timetable for unloading and setting up the stalls has also been delayed so as not to interfere with the rest of the neighbourhoods in the area.
