Some thirty Catalan language students from universities and teaching centres abroad have taken part in the Summer Language Stay in the Balearic Islands, organised by the Institut Ramon Llull, the University of the Balearic Islands and the Government of the Balearic Islands. The event, at which diplomas were awarded to the students, was attended by Ariadna Puiggené, head of the Institut Ramon Llull’s Language and Universities Department, Dr. Rosa Calafat, coordinator of Language Policy at the UIB, and Beatriu Defior, director general of Language Policy at the Government of the Balearic Islands.

The Institut Ramon Llull organises, jointly or in collaboration with other institutions, language and cultural training stays designed to improve the linguistic competence and cultural knowledge of students of Catalan abroad by means of courses, lectures, visits and complementary activities. Each year, there are four training proposals: the Catalan Language University Campus, the Summer Language Stay in the Balearic Islands, the Summer Language Stay in the Valencian Country and the Virtual Stay in the Catalan-speaking territories.

The language stay took place in Mallorca from 4 to 15 September and was aimed at students of Catalan from universities and other educational centres abroad. This stay combined Catalan language and culture courses with a programme of cultural and leisure activities linked to cultural tourism on the island of Mallorca: lectures on the history and culture of the islands, music and glosses workshops, visits to the main institutions, etc.
