CEIP Son Basca, CEIP Torres de Balàfia, CEIPIESO Joan Miró, IES Antoni Maura and IES Son Ferrer explain their projects.
Five schools from the Balearic Islands represented the Balearic Islands at the 1st Proa+ Conference organised by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training on 17 and 18 November in Santander. These are successful initiatives that have been selected from all those carried out throughout Spain as examples of good practice.

The Proa+ Programme, a programme funded by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and the European Union-NextGenerationEU, has as its fundamental axis the institutional reinforcement of the centres that present more educational complexity, in order to promote the necessary changes in their organisational culture to ensure the school success of all students, with special attention to students who are in a situation of greater vulnerability. In the Balearic Islands, there are 108 centres that apply it (70 in Mallorca, 27 in Ibiza, 8 in Menorca and 3 in Formentera) in some of its sections. To make this possible, more than two million euros have been allocated to this programme on the islands.
1st Proa+ Conference
The director general of Early Childhood, Innovation and the Educational Community, Amanda Fernández, attended the event and highlighted the excellent work being done in the Balearic Islands. “We must not forget that our islands are a highly complex territory; it is no coincidence that we are the Spanish community with the highest percentage of foreign students and a significant number of enrolments outside the regular school year. The schools carry out an extraordinary task to integrate students and their families and that is why today there are five of our schools explaining their initiatives, but there could be many more because they do excellent work in the Balearic Islands”.
In the case of CEIP Son Basca, in Sa Pobla, they explained the different lines they have activated in the centre to work with their students’ families, many of whom are of immigrant origin. The aim is for the school to become a place that goes beyond and includes families in their daily lives.
IES Antoni Maura, in Palma, and IES Son Ferrer, in Calvià, have shown how they apply their absenteeism prevention plan in the section on actions to support students with learning difficulties, accompanying and guiding vulnerable students. The CEIP Torres de Balàfia school in Ibiza has also been selected as a good practice for working with families.
Finally, CEIPIESO Pintor Joan Miró, in Palma, coordinated the workshop on educational reinforcement during school hours.
