The reconstruction of Sóller’s Defensora theatre

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, visited the Defensora theatre in Sóller this morning, accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, Miquel Nadal, the councillor of Heritage, Juan Lorente, and the councillor of Culture, Antònia Frau. During the visit, Galmés checked first-hand the state of the building after it collapsed on September 5 and has transferred to the mayor the maximum support and collaboration of the insular institution to help rehabilitate it.

Galmés recalled that the duty of the Consell is “to be at the side of the municipalities. Especially in difficult times. For this reason, he added that “today we have come to Sóller to tell you that we are by your side and that we will offer you our help in everything we can. The Consell de Mallorca will participate in the reconstruction of the theatre, so important for the island and for all Sollerics”. The president of the insular institution has concluded that “we promised that you would always find us when you need us and here we are”.

The president of the insular institution has regretted the collapse of the theatre that dates from the second half of the nineteenth century and was in the process of rehabilitation, although the works were paralyzed. In fact, he recalled that a few weeks ago, the first vice president of the Consell and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, and two island directors visited the building. The City Council of Sóller has not yet quantified the total cost of the reconstruction work.
