Quantify the goat population in Mallorca

The Island Hunting Directorate of the Consell de Mallorca has met this week with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment to jointly coordinate a series of actions to control goat populations in Mallorca, in order to act more efficiently and effectively and address the situation with a broader approach. One of the main measures that have been agreed upon has been the application of different methodologies to estimate both the overall population of goats, as well as their zonal and seasonal densities. The availability of a newly updated census will make it possible to prioritize control where it is most needed.

Likewise, it has been established that the decision-making process will take into account, in the first place, all the affected people who are knowledgeable about the territory and the farms: owners, owners of hunting grounds, hunters, farmers, neighbourhood associations, town councils, associations of specific hunting modalities, hunting tourism companies and wildlife control companies, among others, as well as researchers and research teams that have been collaborating with the Hunting Service and the Species Protection Service.
