The first meeting of the Serra de Tramuntana Permanent Committee
The Councilor of the Presidency of the Consell de Mallorca and Vice President of the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, Antoni Fuster, and the Serra de Tramuntana Island Director, Antoni Solivellas, presided over the first meeting of the Permanent Board of the new term of office, at which they presented the Consortium’s strategic lines of action for the next four years.
One of the priority objectives is to streamline and simplify all administrative procedures. The first changes will already begin to be seen in the new call for subsidies, which is expected to be published in January 2024. For the first time, there will be separate calls for proposals, one for local councils, endowed with 300,000 euros, and another for individuals, companies and non-profit organisations, initially endowed with 700,000 euros.
Dissemination of the values of the declaration
The Vice President of the Consortium and Councilor of the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, told the Permanent Committee that “the Serra de Tramuntana is a priority for this new government team and, as a result, a specific island directorate has been created and the Consortium has been strengthened with the addition of a managing director, which will help manage and maintain the cultural landscape, as well as promote the local product.
In addition, Solivellas explained the intention to promote the values of the Serra de Tramuntana’s declaration as a World Heritage site among the local population. To this end, the educational programs will be reinforced and there will be active participation in the fairs held in all the Serra de Tramuntana municipalities.
The system of indicators will also be updated to provide a thorough analysis of the state of the Serra de Tramuntana from all points of view; this will make it possible, among other things, to revise the management plan, which dates back to 2011. Another goal is to move forward with the Serra de Tramuntana Act and to set itself up as a valid interlocutor, among all the administrations, to help solve the noise problem on the Ma-10 road.
The Permanent Committee is one of the Consortium’s non-binding consultation and advisory bodies, made up of representatives of the main entities working in the Serra de Tramuntana. The aim is to update the operating rules and limit the number of participants to a maximum of 20.
Monday’s meeting was attended by representatives of Amics de la Tierra, ASAJA, the Association of Country Estate Owners, the Sóller Fishermen’s Guild, the Sóller Cooperative, the Balearic Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing, Federación Hotelera de Mallorca, Fundación Itinerem, Fundación Jardín Botánico, GOB, ICTIB, Més Cultura, Miramar -Son Marroig, Tramuntana XXI, UCABAL, Unió de Pagesos and Vinyes Mortitx, as well as, individually, the heritage expert Tomàs Vibot.
