The Consell de Mallorca completes the remodelling of the road from Manacor to Felanitx
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, today inaugurated the remodelling work on the Ma-14 road from Manacor to Felanitx. This refurbishment will significantly improve the safety of a very busy road between the regions of Migjorn and Llevant de Mallorca. With a budget of 3.4 million euros, the entire road surface along the length of the road, which was very deteriorated, has been replaced with a high-grip surface, and the intersection at the access to Son Macià and the roundabouts at the Felanitx and Manacor entrances and exits have been improved.
At today’s ceremony, President Galmés was accompanied by the councillor for Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures, Fernando Rubio, and the councillors of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, and Felanitx, Catalina Soler.
It was a much-needed refurbishment due to the poor condition of the road. It began at the end of the last legislature and has lasted about seven months. In September, a series of improvements demanded by the residents of Son Macià and Felanitx were introduced, such as a central lane at the intersection of the Son Vell road in the direction of Son Carrió, located in Son Macià, and the improvement of the accesses to the Son Nadal road to Felanitx.
President Galmés stressed the importance of this work: “Today we are inaugurating the remodelling of an essential road for this region, as it links a good part of the villages of the Migjorn region with Manacor and, in particular, with the hospital in the capital of Llevant. It was begun during the last legislature and we have completed the reform by introducing the improvements that the residents had asked for.
During this term of office,” added President Galmés, “we have set out to improve safety on Mallorca’s roads as much as possible, and for this reason, we have budgeted some 20 million euros for 2024 to carry out road reforms on a large part of the island’s roads. The aim is to improve safety with a more adherent asphalt that allows us to reduce the accident rate as much as possible.
The work
To improve the road surface, the entire road has been milled to remove the old, deteriorated asphalt and replaced with two layers of high-viscosity asphalt of around 10 centimetres in some sections, which improves vehicle adherence.
The following work has been carried out at the Son Macià intersection and in the Felanitx area:
Excavation of the slope to fit the 18-metre radius roundabout. A breakwater wall has been built to contain the earth from the slope. The platform has been widened to accommodate the roundabout. Construction of a roundabout with two lanes of traffic with a width of 3.5 metres per lane. The inside of the roundabout has been conditioned by spreading topsoil, marés gravel and forest substrate for planting vegetation.
The vegetation chosen is of an autochthonous nature to facilitate integration and reduce maintenance costs. Carob trees and shrubs have been planted.
In the 100 metres adjacent to the intersection in the Manacor direction, a third intermediate lane has been created to turn towards the service area and access the Els Horts road.
The service area has been upgraded as part of the improvement of the intersection.
Construction of a central lane at the Son Macià intersection to access the Son Vell and Son Carrió roads.
Improvement of the accesses to the Son Nadal road in Felanitx.
