More than 700 elderly people from IMAS centres receive personalised postcards
With the same enthusiasm as a child receiving a present, the 25 elderly people at the IMAS Reina Sofia day centre today received the personalised letters sent to them by the CaixaBank Volunteers Association, as part of the “Cap padrí sense Nadal” campaign, to wish them a happy Christmas. All of them confessed that they were very happy to receive the cards and could not help but be moved when they read the greetings dedicated exclusively to each one of them.
The Institut Mallorquí d0Afers Socials (IMAS) and CaixaBank have been carrying out this initiative for the last four years to make the elderly feel that they are in the company of others and that they can look forward to this special time of year. This year, the campaign has also counted on the collaboration of volunteers from IES Madina Mayurqa, Cáritas, Art Dansa and Dones Montuïreres.
The director of the Llar Reina Sofia of IMAS, Caterina Massutí, was present at this magical moment, and remarked that “dedicating a postcard to someone is a detail that may seem very small, but it is a great gift for the elderly person to whom the letter is addressed. The fact of receiving a postcard addressed exclusively to them in particular, helps them to feel special and loved during such an emotional time as Christmas”, he said, and recalled that “it is important for the elderly to feel valued. It is like medicine. And that is why any initiative that contributes to improving their self-esteem is welcome”.
Joana Maria Gelabert, delegate of the CaixaBank Volunteers Association in the Balearic Islands and CaixaBank Social Action technician, also attended the postcard presentation ceremony. She explained that each postcard has an exclusive handmade design and a personalised message, designed to make the elderly feel remembered and more valued.
In total, 709 elderly people from nine IMAS day centres and residences will receive some of the 800 postcards made by the more than 100 volunteers who have participated this year in the campaign “Cap padrí sense Nadal”.
All the postcards addressed to IMAS users began to be distributed today among the elderly at the Reina Sofía (Palma). They Can Clar (Llucmajor) day centres and the Son Caulelles (Pòrtol), Hogar de Ancianos, Bonanova, Oms and Sant Miquel (Palma), Bartomeu Quetglas (Felanitx) and Huialfàs (Sa Pobla) homes for the elderly.
In addition to these IMAS centres in Mallorca, the CaixaBank Volunteers Association also carries out this solidarity project in the Mercadal and Ferreries homes for the elderly in Menorca, where they also receive them with the same enthusiasm.
