The Health Service has completed all the selective tests foreseen in the Stabilisation Plan, which includes a total of 4,115 positions that will become permanent. Specifically, 1,620 positions are to be filled by merit-based competition, and 2,495 by competitive examination. All these posts affect 96 health and non-health categories which will be consolidated throughout the year 2024 and will mean a 38% reduction in casualisation in the public health network.
The stabilisation process was announced at the end of 2022 and has now crystallised in 80 positions awarded by merit-based competition. A total of 8,511 applicants have registered for these 1,620 posts. In the case of the competitive examination, the number of places offered was 2,495, with a total of 17,076 registered and 11,589 applicants who finally took the selective tests. These calls for applications continue with the procedure and will be resolved in the coming months.
It should be recalled that until now public employment has been characterised by a high rate of temporary employment, especially in the health sector. To correct this anomaly, the Stabilisation Plan and the public employment offers planned by the Health Service will enable the rate of temporary employment in the public health network to be reduced from 30% to 8%. Both measures are part of the Health Service’s main efforts to reduce casualisation, eliminate precariousness and offer stability to staff in the public health system.
