5,000 euros for the Food Bank with the choirs’ Christmas concerts
Palma’s Teatre Principal is celebrating the Christmas concerts by the choirs of the public theatre with great success, raising almost 5,000 euros for the Food Bank. This Wednesday and Thursday, 20th and 21st December, the traditional Christmas concerts of the choirs were held: two performances centred on Christmas carols, both traditional Mallorcan ones and those from other parts of the world, which have already become an unmissable event for Mallorcan families. The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, highlighted the emotion he felt during the Christmas concert: “Thank you for this gift, you make magic with your voices”, he said.
The Pequeñitos Choir, directed by Llorenç Bonet, was in charge of kicking off the concerts with pieces such as the traditional Cuban carol Flores de Pascua (Easter Flowers) and Noi de la Mare (Noi de la Mare). This was followed by the Children’s Choir, conducted by Maria Francisca Mir, who performed pieces such as Santa Nit and Pie Jesu. The Youth Choir, directed by Daniel Mulet, was the next to take part, performing El bon Jesuset es nat and Star Carol.
The Choir of the Teatre Principal, the titular choir, conducted by Francesc Bonnín, offered a repertoire in which a spectacular version of the Sibil-la stood out. Finally, the concert closed with the joint singing of all the choirs of Santa Nit , Fum Fum Fum Fum and Adeste Fideles. The pianists were Laura Serra, for the subsidiary choirs, and Mavi Cortés, for the titular choir.
It should be noted that the Christmas concerts at Palma’s Teatre Principal were not only an evening to enjoy with the family, but also to bring out the most charitable side of Mallorcans: over the two days, a total of 4,695 euros was raised, which will go to the Food Bank.
