The Consell de Mallorca meets with the councillors of Sports and Elderly People
The Consell de Mallorca has met in the municipal centre of Cap Vermell, in Cala Rajada, with the councillors of Sports and Elderly People to review the activities of ‘Esport per Adults’, which are being developed jointly in the towns. The institution has evaluated the operation of the 4 programmes it promotes with an investment of 560,000 euros in 2024, which will reach 11,000 people. A firm commitment to an active life in adulthood: the ‘Sortides actives’, the ‘Activitats al medi’, ‘Mou-te amb salut!’ and now the new ‘Estades esportives’.
The meeting was attended by the Councillor for Sports, Pedro Bestard, the island’s Director of Sociocultural Promotion, Hermosinda Mariño, and 28 municipal councillors, along with the sports technicians who coordinate the different programmes for the elderly, with the intention of informing them of the future improvements and new features to be applied.
In general terms, the town councils have made a generalised demand: to confirm the availability of places for the weekly ‘Get moving with health!’ sports sessions before the summer; to encourage more sports activities and outings, due to the great demand among retired and elderly people; to take into account people with little mobility; and the creation of two clear groups of elderly people: one from 60 to 75 years old, and the other over 75 years old, in order to adapt the activities.
