The works for the awards of Literary Creation and Contemporary Photography can be submitted until the 1st and 7th of August respectively.
The Consell de Mallorca reminds us that there are only a few days left to submit works for the 16th edition of the Mallorca 2024 Awards for Literary Creation and Contemporary Photography. The deadlines are the 1st and 7th of August respectively.
The vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, recalls that the awards were announced at the beginning of June and that this year there are new features: ‘for the first time, there will be awards in Spanish, so that all literary creators on our island can participate, with no exceptions. In addition to the Contemporary Photography awards, we are also adding the new ‘Talent illenc’ category, to showcase Mallorcan artists’.

Last days to present work to the Mallorca 2024 Awards of the Consell de Mallorca
This new edition of the Mallorca Awards is made up of a total of three calls for entries: the Literary Creation Awards in Catalan, endowed with 79,000 euros; the Literary Creation Awards in Spanish, endowed with 34,000 euros, and the Contemporary Photography Awards, which have 12,000 euros.
It should be noted that works in Spanish will not compete with those presented in Catalan, but will be awarded in two separate competitions: ‘The aim is that these novelties are not detrimental to the Catalan language, and so the traditional prizes will continue with the same budget allocation and the same purpose’, Roca explained.
Deadline for submitting works
The call for Literary Creation was published last Saturday, 20 June, in the BOIB (Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands) and the deadline for submitting entries is 1 August 2024. The call for Contemporary Photography was published in the BOIB on Saturday, June 8, and the deadline for submitting works in this discipline ends on August 7.
Categories Mallorca 2024 Awards in different disciplines
In the call for literary creation in Catalan, there will be five categories: narrative (25,000 euros); essay (19,000 euros); poetry (15,000 euros); plays (10,000 euros) and illustrated children’s literature (10,000 euros). Concerning the Spanish language prizes, there will be two categories: essay (19,000 euros) and poetry (15,000 euros).
In the discipline of photography, in addition to the first prize, which will be endowed with 8,000 euros in cash and the production of an exhibition and a book, this year, as a novelty, there is also a second award called ‘Premi Mallorca de Fotografia Talent Illenc 2024’. This second prize is aimed at those born in Mallorca, or residents on the island for two years and is endowed with 4,000 euros in cash and the production of three works of the project for one of the exhibitions to be held by the Department of Culture and Heritage of the Consell de Mallorca.
