The budget item is doubled about last year and goes from 65,000 € to 126,000 € budgeted for this year

The amount that can be granted to the 22 entities constituted outside the territory of the CAIB is between 1,000 and 13,000

The Consell de Govern has agreed today to authorise the advance payment of up to 100% of the grants to be awarded in the framework of the call for grants for Balearic communities abroad. These subsidies are intended for the 22 Balearic houses established outside the territory of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands to support them so that they can exercise their aims of maintaining links with the Balearic Islands and with their history, culture and language.

The government authorises advance payment of up to 100% of the subsidies to Balearic communities abroad

It should be borne in mind that this year’s call for proposals practically doubles the amount of last year’s call for proposals, going from the €65,000 planned for 2023 to the €126,000 budgeted for this year.

In this regard, it should be recalled that both the President of the Government, Margalida Prohens, and the Councillor for the Presidency and Public Administration, Antònia Maria Estarellas, took advantage of the closing of the XXV Plenary Session of the Council of the Balearic Islands Abroad – held in Palma on 28 February – to reaffirm the commitment of the regional executive to the Balearic Islands’ communities in attending to their main needs in order to improve their functioning and guarantee their survival.

The public interest reasons for the 100% advance payment are justified by the fact that the Balearic communities abroad are non-profit organisations, almost all of which are located in Latin America, and may not have sufficient resources to temporarily finance the implementation of the subsidised activity.

On the other hand, the option of allowing the maximum payment, up to 100%, derives from the fact that the amount that can be granted is small (between €1,000 and €13,000 maximum) and that the maximum amount that can be granted is between €1,000 and €13,000. This introduces an element of complexity at the time of payment, due to the existence of bridge banks and currency exchanges, which means that the amount received by the beneficiary entity is not the full amount transferred by the Autonomous Community, and it is therefore considered more appropriate to make only one payment.
