The Balearic Islands celebrate European Research Night on Friday, the great informative festival for researchers

La Nit de la Recerca is a European initiative held on the last Friday of September to show the role that research personnel play in society and the economy, as well as the impact of their work on the everyday lives of citizens. Another of the aims of this festival is to arouse the interest of young people in research and scientific careers.

The director general of Universities, Research and Higher Artistic Education, Sebastià Massanet, reminds us that ‘spending on research is an investment in the future, an investment to find more efficient medicines, improve food production, better understand the environment or produce technological products that improve our daily lives. Don’t miss the Nit de la Recerca. We look forward to seeing you all’.

The central event of the Nit de la Recerca (Research Night) will be held in Palma, on the royal staircase of the Moll Vell, where a research fair will be set up with stands from different scientific organisations and institutions, a space for workshops and experiments, and there will also be micro-conferences and screenings, covering subjects as varied as mathematics, climate change, the biodiversity of the Balearic Islands and new cancer treatments. This year’s ‘heralds’ will be the researcher’s Ana Travesset, from the Institut Mediterrani d’Estudis Avançats (IMEDEA), and Dr. Mariona Pascual Peña, from the Institut de Recerca i Innovació Educativa (IRIE) of the UIB.

The Nit de la Recerca will also be held in Eivissa, specifically at the headquarters of the Museu Arqueològic d’Eivissa i Formentera, where a guided tour of the exhibition ‘Eivissa, Empúries, Ensérune: el viatge possible, una experiència virtual’, a show with a strong technological component based on virtual reality, holograms and 3D printing, has been organised.
