48 schools

The Serra de Tramuntana Island Director, Antoni Solivellas, and the Consortium Manager, Lluís Vallcaneras, inaugurated the first session of the training sessions that kick off the APS program for this academic year. The main goal is to promote the values of the Serra de Tramuntana in the educational environment and thus contribute to preserving the cultural landscape of the Serra, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.

This year, a total of 48 schools are taking part in the programme, 13 of which have signed up for the first time: CEIP Nicolau Calafat, CEIP Puig de na Fàtima, CEIP Miquel Costa i Llobera, CEIP Puig de Sant Martí, CEIP Ses Bassetes, CEIP Ses Bassetes, CEIP Es Vinyet, CEIP Pere Rosselló Oliver, CEIP Antònia Alzina, CEIP Gabriel Palmer, IES Can Peu Blanc, IES Baltasar Porcel, IES Guillem Sagrera, CIPF Politècnic Llevant.

Training sessions for first-year schools

60 teachers from the schools joining the programme participated in a training day in Raixa (Bunyola). The meeting included a conference on the APS methodology, given by teachers from IES Guillem Colom Casasnovas given their experience in the programme. Those present also enjoyed a visit to the Serra de Tramuntana Centre and another around the exterior, with Aina Mora from Més Cultura, to get to know the most significant heritage elements. The programme offers participating centres a free stay in a refuge and a bus to visit Raixa.

What is the ‘Service Learning’ programme?

This programme proposes an active and participatory methodology integrating learning and service in a single project. Students work in response to real needs, which allows them to establish community networks with organisations and social agents to improve their environment. The programme offers the opportunity to explore the Tramuntana mountain range as an area rich in historical, heritage, cultural and natural resources, promoting a sense of belonging and the formation of citizens committed to their environment.
