The Consell de Govern extends the air medical transport service contract

To provide adequate emergency care, and take into account the distribution of the territory of the Balearic Islands, it is necessary to have means of air medical transport to ensure rapid mobilisation of patients to the most appropriate health centre. SAMU 061 has a fleet of two aircraft and two helicopters to carry out medical transfers between the islands and the mainland.

Due to changes in the pattern of care in recent years and an increasing demand for inter-island patient transfers, it has been necessary to adjust the contracted hours to current consumption. Thus, the number of hours available per year for the routine operation of air ambulance services has been modified by 13.3%.

It should be noted that this amendment does not alter the current operation of these means, but only increases the availability of flight hours. This amendment therefore optimises the current contract and adjusts it to the real needs for assistance.

SAMU 061 made a total of 1,284 air movements in 2024; 1,377 in 2023; 1,294 in 2022 and 1,138 in 2021.
