In Mallorca, schools will have five more nursery and primary school teachers, four in Eivissa and Formentera and three in Menorca.
The Directorate General of Teaching Staff and Concerted Centres has created these posts in response to possible sick leave due to the flu.
The Directorate General for Teaching Staff and Subsidised Centres will allocate a total of 12 positions in the urgent group of teacher substitutions to cover short-term sick leave for preschool and primary school teachers at public schools in the Balearic Islands on Tuesday, 21 January.

Educació incorporates 12 substitute teachers to cover short-term leaves of absence and unexpected situations
The Department of Education and Universities is committed to expanding the urgent group of substitutions to provide a rapid response to the needs of schools and cover short-term absences that occur, to a large extent, due to the incidence of influenza.
Thus, five positions will be created on the island of Mallorca, four more in Eivissa and Formentera, and three in Menorca. The ministry does not rule out the possibility of expanding this group if necessary.
Ismael Alonso, Director General for Teaching Staff and Concerted Centres, explains that, with this measure, ‘we want to anticipate the possible incidence of the flu and we have always taken into account the wellbeing of the pupils and their care. We don’t want any child to be left without a class due to the absence of teachers. With the creation of these 12 positions for infant and primary teachers, we are reinforcing the educational centres to be able to cover short-term absences urgently’.
