Soprano Vanessa Goikoetxea, the Cor de la Capella Mallorquina and José María Moreno conducted the OSIB concert at Palma’s Teatro Principal

The first part will begin with the opening of Weber’s ‘Cazador furtivo’, a piece from one of the most emblematic operas of German Romanticism. It is characterised by the dramatic, dark and mysterious atmosphere that pervades the whole audience.

This feeling continues with the following work ‘Songs of a Wayfarer’ by Gustav Mahler. A work that is characterised by four pieces that reflect the lack of love and desolation. Vanessa Goikoetxea will be the soprano soloist for this work.

She gave the world premiere of Zeru Urdinetik, while also performing in Ein Deutsches Requiem, under the baton of Erik Nielsen and the BOS. Invited by Maestro Marcon, she performed Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang at the Auditorio Manuel de Falla. In the Auditorio Miguel Delibes, it performs Mahler’s Second Symphony. He also performs Budavari Té Deum, with the Münchner Rundfunk Orcherster in Munich.

She is a regular at the Semperoper in Dresden, where she has performed the leading roles of Bystrouška (The Wily Guinevere), Alcina (Alcina), Musetta (La Bohème), Rachel (La Juive), Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow) and Mimì (La Bohème), among others, to great critical acclaim.

The concert will end with Dan Forrest’s ‘Requiem for the Living’. A choral and orchestral work that aims to honour the living and the complex relationship between life and death.

This concert will be conducted by the Mallorcan maestro José María Moreno. The Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica Illes Balears, as always, gives a voice to and supports the artists of the Balearic Islands.

Considered one of the most passionate, energetic and versatile Spanish conductors of his generation, he has been Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga since the 2020-21 Season.
