The tests are scheduled to take place between April and May.

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) has registered 450 applications for the tests, through the competitive examination system, using which those interested will opt for the 12 new positions offered by the public railway company in different departments.

On December 17th SFM published in the BOIB (Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands) the call for a new public offer of employment for the free shift of SFM’s labour staff. The jobs offered in this call correspond to the ordinary public offers of employment for the years 2021, 2022 and 2023.

To encourage competition and competition for the positions offered, SFM launched an advertising campaign from the publication of the call for applications, which has been a great success, as the company has exceeded its expectations in terms of the number of applicants registered. In the last public job offer for 2019 and 2020, many vacancies were not filled because the process was not well publicised.

The list of the 12 positions offered is as follows: operations inspector (1), supervision and intervention unit (2), administrative (2), technical services assistant (2), line safety officer (1), rolling stock safety officer (1), head of the General and Economic Services Area (1), train driver (1) and station manager (1).

The tests are scheduled to take place between April and May and the new employees will be able to join the company before the end of 2025. Applicants who have taken part in the selective tests and pass the competitive examination and examination phase but do not obtain a place will be included in a specific pool for the professional category of access.

These 12 new posts are the maximum number of positions that SFM has been able to offer at the moment about the employee replacement rate for the last years (2021, 2022 and 2023) applicable to the public railway company.

The Human Resources Department is already working to publish two new calls for applications this year with a greater number of vacancies and is also working on an extraordinary mechanism not subject to the replacement rate to speed up the incorporation of new train drivers and other employees to strengthen and size the company’s human resources.

In recent years, these processes to expand the workforce have been at a standstill and have now been reactivated, thanks to the work of Human Resources. In this way, firm steps continue to be taken to add new employees to SFM, with a lack of personnel in many of its departments concerning the current growth in demand and because of the forecast of continuing expansion in the coming years.

Last year, SFM increased its workforce with 17 employees, train drivers, administrative staff and traffic factors, who started between March and May.
