The councillor for Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures, Fernando Rubio, met today with the town councillors and councillors of the municipality and agreed to promote measures to reduce speed in the centre of the town and to organise a meeting with the residents to explain the future bypass.

The councillor for Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures, Fernando Rubio, met today with the mayor of Santa Eugènia, Pep Lluís Urraca, and councillors from the municipality to take urgent measures to improve safety on the road through the town and reduce inconvenience to residents. It was also agreed to convene a meeting with the residents of Santa Eugènia to explain the future bypass that will take heavy traffic out of the village, and that the Consell de Mallorca is already working on the project. The meeting was also attended by the island’s director of infrastructures, Rafel Gelabert, and councillors Pep Bonnín and Jaqueline Volait.

The Consell de Mallorca will study urgent measures to improve safety on the road through Santa Eugènia

Among the urgent measures that have been proposed are a change in vertical and horizontal signage, improved safety at pedestrian crossings, measures to reduce speed and the possibility of creating public car parks at the entrance to the town. In any case, all these measures will be analysed between the road technicians and the municipal technicians in a meeting next week in the field.

The road through Santa Eugènia carries some 5,000 vehicles a day, as it is a connection point between the villages of Pla de Mallorca and the Inca motorway. Councillor Fernando Rubio has told the mayor that promoting the bypass construction is the best solution, as long as the Town Council and the local residents agree. In this sense, it has been agreed to organise a meeting with the residents a few months from now, when the project is finished, and to explain to the people the different alternatives to the Santa Eugènia ring road.
