The challenges, which will be managed by the FUEIB through the IoTIB Laboratory, will give interested researchers the opportunity to present their proposals, develop them and execute them.

The initiatives involve an investment of 1.12 million euros and deal with the sensitisation of Mallorca’s natural spaces and the establishment of aquifer network control systems, among others.

The Balearic Agency for Digitalisation, Cybersecurity and Telecommunications (IB Digital) presented this Friday at the University of the Balearic Islands, at an open day, the different challenges of collaboration for 2025, which will be managed through the University-Business Foundation of the Balearic Islands (FUEIB) through the IoTIB Laboratory. This collaboration channel will allow researchers to present their proposals to develop and execute the different projects.

IB Digital presents the six sensitisation projects for 2025 to the UIB

The event was attended by the manager of IB Digital, Miquel Cardona, and the director general of the Natural Environment, Ana Torres.

Specifically, the six initiatives are: the deployment of stations to sensor the Natural Park of the island of Mallorca, the detection of the use of mooring buoys, the measurement of the water level in storage tanks for fire extinction, the deployment of systems to measure the conductivity of a sewage network, the control of a network of aquifers and, finally, the measurement of the flow in supply wells.

The proposals will be submitted on 28 February, the selection for each of the challenges will be made on 7 March, and on 10 March they will be launched. They will have to be completed by December 2025, and the results will be presented in January 2026.

These measures, which will involve a total investment of €1,126,318.26, will make it possible to test measures and obtain real-time data to increase the sustainability of the territory. They are also part of the Balearic Islands Government’s strategy to achieve a smart Balearic territory, in addition to other projects such as the extension of the Tetra IB network, which helps to maximise coverage to improve efficiency in emergencies, and the Digital Twin, with an investment of more than 4 million euros, which, through a digital replica of the Balearic Islands territory.
