SFM invites the town councils of the railway corridor to join the events of the 150th anniversary of the Mallorca train from Sunday 23rd February onwards
The meeting was attended by the mayors Virgilio Moreno (Inca), Jaume Llompart (Marratxí) and Biel Ferragut (Sa Pobla), as well as deputy mayors and councillors from several municipalities, including Palma, Manacor, Sineu, Lloseta and Llubí, with the attendance of Antoni Deudero (Palma), Mateu Marcé (Manacor), Xisca Gayà (Sineu), Javier González (Lloseta) and Antoni Alomar (Llubí).
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the commissioning of the first train in Mallorca, on the line from Palma to Inca, inaugurated on 24 February 1875 and the only one that has operated uninterruptedly from the last quarter of the 19th century until the present. The arrival of the railway on the island contributed to an unprecedented economic, social and cultural transformation.
To preserve and promote the historical railway heritage, SFM organises several activities throughout the year, focusing on highlighting the role of the train in society and making the history of the railway in Mallorca known. The opening ceremony of these commemorations will take place on Sunday morning, February 23rd at Palma’s Intermodal station. The activities will be presented soon.
