Absolute success of attendance at the guided tours of La Misericòrdia
These visits to La Misericòrdia are free with prior registration and the aim is to make the building known to everyone. The Vice-President of the Consell de Mallorca and Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, took the tour to get to know all the details of the building and the main rooms first-hand, recalling its history. The vice-president stressed that ‘it is a pleasure to be able to get to know everything that La Misericòrdia has been and is. For the Consell de Mallorca it is a duty and an obligation to open its doors to the public to bring Mallorca’s heritage and cultural heritage closer to everyone, so that they can enjoy it and get to know it.
Roca added: ‘we are very satisfied with the good reception of the guided tours of La Misericòrdia. With the results of these first months we believe that this activity should be present in the building’s programme throughout the year, as it is a cultural attraction of interest, both for the general public and for the school sector, to learn more about La Misericòrdia as part of the cultural and architectural heritage of the island’.
Guided tours of La Misericòrdia
In these guided tours, which last around an hour, the Consell de Mallorca makes the history of the La Misericòrdia Cultural Centre, which began as a hospice and now houses some of Palma’s most important cultural facilities, such as the Biblioteca de Cultura Artesana (Artisan Culture Library) and the Arxiu del So i de la Imatge de Mallorca (Archive of the Sound and Image of Mallorca), accessible to the general public.
A tour that explains the history, architecture and most emblematic uses of Palma’s largest civil building, founded in 1565 by the Jesuits as a hospice. A visit that uncovers the most unknown parts of La Misericòrdia by travelling back to its origins, analysing its architecture and learning about the different uses and functions that the building has had over the years.
Guided tours take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. and on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. with a limited capacity of 30 people and with prior registration at the following link: https://bit.ly/4fUy4Yg.
