The Directorate General of Mobility of the Government of the Balearic Islands plans to award only to zero-emission electric vehicles the 75 temporary authorisations to operate in high season in 2025 and 2026 on the island of Mallorca, one of the objectives of the new regulation implemented by the current Government to promote the use of electric vehicles and move towards more sustainable mobility.

In total, 232 applications have been accepted for the 75 temporary authorisations, and it has already been verified that the number of applications with the maximum score – for which zero-emission electric vehicles are required – already exceeds 75, a fact that guarantees that all licences will be covered with this type of vehicle, given that the Government introduced this requirement in the modification of the decree last year.

Mobility may award 75 temporary VTC authorisations in Mallorca for 2025 and 2026 to zero-emission electric vehicles

Among other issues, in the modification of the decree that regulates these island-wide authorisations, the Government is promoting electric vehicles in the scores for obtaining temporary VTC authorisations, through criteria linked to environmental protection. Thus, this year a further step towards more sustainable mobility will be taken, with 100% zero-emission electric vehicles providing service with temporary authorisation between May and October 2025 and 2026.

The period for submitting applications has been open for a month, from 19 December to 15 January, and will allow 75 temporary authorisations to be awarded for the years 2025 and 2026, the same number established for 2024. The regulation of the granting of temporary VTC authorisations of an insular nature in Mallorca, to cope with the increase in passenger demand during the high season, was established by decree in 2019 and 25 temporary authorisations had already been granted in 2019 and 50 in 2023.
