Minimum Living Income protects more than 850,000 minors in January, 41.5% of beneficiaries
The IMV is a benefit aimed at preventing the risk of poverty and social exclusion of people who live alone or are part of a cohabitation unit and lack basic economic resources.
One of its priority objectives is to tackle child poverty. It is worth noting in this respect that 69.1% of the households reached by the MVI have children and adolescents living in them. In total, there are 464,465 households with minors, including 116,853 single-parent households. On the other hand, if we look at the profile of the beneficiaries, 41.5% are minors, 850,127 to be precise.
One of the main tools in the fight against the risk of child poverty is the Childhood Assistance Supplement (CAPI). This month, the CAPI has reached 464,471 households. This type of IMV means an allowance of 115 euros per household per month in the case of children aged 0 to 3; 80.5 euros per month for each child between 3 and 6; and 57.5 euros per month for each child between 6 and 18. The average amount of the supplement in January was 67.15 euros per child and 122.90 euros per household with children.
On the other hand, the beneficiaries of the IMV are characterised by a markedly female profile. In January, 67.5% of the holders (453,195) and 53.4% of the beneficiaries were women.
Of all beneficiaries, 82.4% are of Spanish nationality and their average age is 45.2 years.
2.8 million people protected since its creation
In January, there were 134,459 more active benefits than there were a year ago in this same period, an increase of 25%. 449,334 more beneficiaries are living in these households than those registered in January 2024 (+28.1%).
In cumulative terms since June 2020, when this benefit was launched in the middle of the pandemic, the MVI has reached 955,918 households and has protected the 2,842,392 people who are part of them. More than 1.2 million of them are children and adolescents, specifically 1,235,264, 43.5 per cent of the total.
Since this policy came into force, Social Security has allocated 13,741.8 million euros to the payment of this benefit.
