The Consell de Mallorca has opened the deadline for the submission of proposals for the tender for the drafting of the project and the management of the decontamination works of the old Alcanada thermal power plant. Interested companies can submit their projects until 5 March 2025, following the technical specifications that have been published.

This tendering process will enable an essential action to be carried out for the environmental and heritage recovery of this emblematic area, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC). The Minister of the Presidency, Antoni Fuster, stressed that ‘this progress represents the beginning of a new phase for the Alcanada thermal power plant. These are the first real actions aimed at decontaminating it and guaranteeing the viability of a new project.

The decontamination of the old thermal power plant is a complex technical intervention that will enable the legal and environmental standards required to be met to recover the environment. The project is co-financed by the European Just Transition Fund (FTJ).
