The urgent repair work on the structure of the bridge will continue on the sides, once the major work has been completed.
The Department of Infrastructures of the Consell de Mallorca has this morning opened to traffic to the two lanes under the Jacint Verdeguer bridge, which connects the Cintura road with the Inca motorway. Last week, one of the lanes had to be closed for emergency measures due to the degradation of the bridge’s structure. The work will continue for another three weeks on the sides of the bridge until it is completely restored and safe. To continue the work, three-metre lanes have been painted so that the work can be carried out and, at the same time, traffic can be re-established on both lanes.

The two lanes under the Jacinto Verdeguer bridge that connects to the Inca motorway are opened to traffic
It is a bridge that was built 50 years ago and, over these five decades, no work has been done on most of the pillars. Other bridges on the ring road were repaired in 2009 and 2010. These works are very annoying and have caused traffic jams, as the work is being carried out under the bridge where vehicles coming from Andratx via Via de Cintura pass to take the motorway to Inca. The bridge was quite deteriorated, the concrete had come loose, and emergency action had to be taken to stop its degradation and guarantee its safety.
According to the technicians, the maritime environment of Mallorca means that the ironwork of the slabs is stolen much more quickly. For this reason, it was necessary to completely and thoroughly clean the pillars and structure of the bridge. A special coating has then been applied to prevent the deck from rusting and the structure is being covered with concrete again.
