Surgery known as distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a technique that allows a bone segment to be transported to reconstruct bone defects after a fracture caused by trauma, tumour or severe infectious processes.
The technique involves making a controlled fracture and separating the bone slowly, allowing the bone itself to fill the space during healing. When performed with an Intramedullary Magnetic Nail, an alternative to traditional external fixation is proposed, a method that allows fewer complications and a better quality of life for the patient.
