President Llorenç Galmés has unveiled a plaque commemorating a long-awaited and long-demanded work in the Serra de Tramuntana, with an investment of 3.6 million euros.
The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, today inaugurated the refurbishment that has improved the safety of a 17-kilometre stretch of the MA-10 road, which connects Andratx with Estellencs and reaches the Banyalbufar crossing. This is a long-awaited project by the three municipalities and one that different groups, such as cyclists, have been demanding for the past 10 years, intending to reinforce the road surface and replace safety elements. The work was completed a few days ago with a budget of 3.6 million euros.

The Consell de Mallorca inaugurates the refurbishment and improvement of the safety of the Andratx-Estellencs road and the Banyalbufar crossing
During the ceremony, President Llorenç Galmés unveiled a commemorative plaque accompanied by the councillors and councillors of the municipalities of Andratx, Estellencs and Banyalbufar; the Minister of Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures, Fernando Rubio; the island’s Director of Infrastructures, Rafel Gelabert, and various representatives of the Balearic Cycling Federation and the platform in favour of sustainable mobility PLEASE.
Today we are inaugurating a long-sought-after project,’ said President Galmés, ’especially by cyclists and cycle tourists, because this road had been in poor condition for years and required safety improvements. It is a very busy road, which takes in a large part of the Serra de Tramuntana, and therefore has a special significance for this sport and tourism. A project that was paralysed in 2017 and that we have unblocked because of the urgent need for action.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORKS
The works, which began at the beginning of 2025, include preliminary works such as cleaning, repairing and eliminating the most deteriorated pavements by milling 4 to 7 centimetres thick. The replacement and reinforcement of the road surface has been carried out by placing a new 4-centimetre layer of semi-hot asphalt with calcareous aggregate, with a bearing layer and a traffic layer along 17 kilometres. In addition, horizontal marking and marking have been carried out with hot thermoplastic paint to guarantee the safety of users.
In terms of safety systems, the metal barriers have been replaced by mixed wood and steel barriers with an additional protection system for motorcyclists. No expropriations were necessary for the project, as the works were carried out within the public domain. Furthermore, the waste study has taken into account the segregation and reuse of materials.
