The Conference, co-organised by the ABEEP and the COIBA, has highlighted the value of specialisation in childcare

The II Jornada de Enfermería Pediátrica Balear, which took place today at the Hospital Universitario Son Llàtzer, brought together more than one hundred paediatric nursing professionals to address the main advances and challenges in child care.

The event, co-organised by the Balearic Association of Nurses Specialising in Paediatrics (ABEEP) and the Official College of Nurses of the Balearic Islands (COIBA), was inaugurated by the Hospital Manager, Soledad Gallardo, who stressed the importance of specialised training to improve the care and well-being of paediatric patients. She was accompanied by the president of the ABEEP, Beatriz Riera, and the COIBA paediatrics member, Marga Moranta.

The programme included presentations and round tables with specialists in paediatric nursing and highlighted the need for continuous training in this field. Among the experts who took part were paediatrician Elsa Segura, who gave a workshop on non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and Antonio Moreno, who addressed the challenges in ultrasound testing of catheters in neonatology.  

Likewise, Francisca Llobera Iglesias presented the role of the School for Parents in the neonatal intensive care unit, while Catalina Ramis spoke about the advances in the use of devices for diabetes in children. In the field of mental health, Eugenia Nadolu discussed the worrying increase in self-harm in adolescents, and Paula Martínez analysed the challenges of paediatric nursing in primary care. The CONFERENCE concluded with a talk by Cristina Ramis on the importance of scientific evidence in paediatric nursing.  

The ABEEP has highly valued this second edition of the CONFERENCE and has underlined the fundamental role of paediatric nursing in the safety and well-being of the youngest patients.  For its part, the COIBA celebrated the great reception of this conference and highlighted the great work carried out by specialist paediatric nurses in the Balearic Islands, as demonstrated by this initiative, and the need to continue promoting the recognition and development of this speciality to continue improving care for paediatric patients and their families.
