The Serra de Tramuntana island director announced this initiative at the meeting of the Consortium’s Permanent Board.
The Consell de Mallorca is already working on an inventory of all the ethnological elements located within the official World Heritage delimitation of the Serra de Tramuntana. This was announced by the Serra de Tramuntana Island Director, Antoni Solivellas, and the Consortium Manager, Lluís Vallcaneras, during the meeting of the Permanent Bureau, held on Monday afternoon in regular session.
Specifically, the inventories of the Serra de Tramuntana springs, the dry docks and the estates are scheduled to be completed this year. The remaining elements, such as the snow houses, towers, layouts, wash houses and cisterns, will be catalogued over the next few years, until all of the heritage that UNESCO deemed in 2011 to be of exceptional universal value and that should be protected by its declaration as World Heritage is complete.

The Consell de Mallorca will draw up an inventory of all the ethnological elements of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range
For the Serra de Tramuntana island director, this task is of great importance, as, he says, ‘until now we only had what the local councils had catalogued, so there was no common criterion or complete record of the entire territory. With this work that we are now beginning, which will last for at least two years, we will obtain an updated image of the real state of our heritage, which will allow us to make decisions according to the urgency of each element.
Antoni Solivella explains that, in this way, ‘we are also responding to the request made by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), linked to UNESCO, in 2019 to catalogue these assets, a request that this government team is now fulfilling’.
Likewise, a catalogue of the thousand-year-old olive trees in the Serra de Tramuntana will be drawn up. To this end, a training CONFERENCE will be held before the summer to learn how to calculate their age.
