President Galmés presented the sustainable mobility and safety improvement project with a budget of 2.7 million euros. The works will begin before the summer

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, today presented the project to improve safety and mobility on the sa Pobla – Crestatx axis, with the construction of a roundabout to access this urbanisation and a civic road that will connect the municipality with the Crestatx, s’Obac and Son Toni urbanisations, passing over the motorway and the Sant Miquel torrent. This project, with a budget of 2.7 million euros, will mean a major transformation of mobility in Sa Pobla, as it will improve road safety and promote sustainable means of transport. The works, which will last ten months, could begin before the summer and will include landscape integration and sustainability measures.

The Consell de Mallorca promotes the construction of a roundabout and a civic road to connect Crestatx with sa Pobla

Galmés was accompanied during the presentation by the mayor of Sa Pobla, Biel Ferragut; the councillor of Territory, Mobility and Infrastructures, Fernando Rubio, and the island’s director of Infrastructures, Rafel Gelabert. The president explained that ‘before this summer we are confident that we will be able to begin the works that the residents of Sa Pobla and the residents of the urbanisations of Crestatx, s’Obac and Son Toni have been waiting for and demanding. Llorenç Galmés pointed out that we are connecting these areas with sa Pobla through the sustainable mobility of a civic road, and we are improving the safety of a place where no important work had been done since the 1960s. This is the policy that we want to promote in the Consell de Mallorca: to implement projects to improve the quality of life of the citizens, while during the last legislature, they looked the other way and policies to improve roads were non-existent. The president recalled that this project is included in the Plan of civic roads promoted by the island’s institution, with more than 60 kilometres and an investment of 45 million euros.

Features of the works

The T-junction on the Pollença road will be replaced by a roundabout which will facilitate the movement of vehicles towards Crestatx, the hermitage and the urbanisations in the area and, above all, improve the safety of students and pedestrians in general who have to cross the road. The project also includes the improvement of the road surface, the installation of a new drainage system and lighting with LED luminaires, which comply with sustainability criteria and current regulations.

The project includes the construction of a 2.5-kilometre civic road for pedestrians and cyclists, which will connect the centre of Sa Pobla with the urbanisations of Crestatx, S’Obac and Son Toni. The infrastructure includes wooden footbridges over the Sant Miquel torrent, as well as retaining walls in areas of unevenness. Ecological materials and autochthonous species will be used in the design of the paving and vegetation, which will ensure integration with the rural environment.

The project places special emphasis on environmental sustainability, with the reuse of existing materials and energy efficiency criteria. In addition, mixed steel and wooden barriers will be installed, as well as adapted signage to improve road safety and prevent accidents.
