Music for everyone
On Thursday the 27th, the OSIB kicked off the activities coordinated by this Department with an extraordinary concert featuring artists from the Balearic Islands such as flautist Rafael Adobas, bassist Simón Orfila, singer Júlia Colom and the group Ressonadors. In this way, the OSIB fused its musical roots with other genres, as well as vindicating the work of composers and performers from the Balearic Islands with contemporary repertoires.

IEB celebrates Balearic Islands Day 2025 with board games
As part of the celebration of the Day of the Balearic Islands, the Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) will offer in the main tent of the Government located in the Parc de la Mar a play area for families and adults with board games in Catalan by creators of the Balearic Islands. The aim of these games is to raise awareness of the history and culture of our islands.
At the session on 28 February from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., those attending the marquee will be able to play the games Can Amunt i Can Avall, Aïllats and Iràs i no tornaràs, and on 2 March from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. they can play the games Orígenes and Rondalles.
Currently, the board game sector is clearly on the rise in the Balearic Islands. This CONFERENCE is a great opportunity for those attending to get to know them and be encouraged to play them in their daily lives.
Gastronomy of the Balearic Islands takes centre stage
In the main marquee there will be a wine tasting of wines from the four islands.
There will be two sessions: 28 February, from 6.30 pm to 8 pm, and 2 March, from 12 noon to 1.30 pm.
These wine tastings will be held in collaboration with the Balearic School of Hotel Management. Four types of wines will be tasted (one per island), selected by the School’s sommelier. In addition, the history and current affairs of wine in the Balearic Islands will be explained, as well as the different elaborations, the description of the wine according to its style, and the importance of the wine of the Islands in the local market, as well as its origin and the varieties used. Each tasting will be for twenty-five people, although all those attending will be able to enjoy the sommelier’s explanations until the marquee’s capacity is reached.
Sport joins the Diada celebrations
Sport will also play a leading role over the next few days with different competitions, exhibitions and meetings organised by various sports federations on the Balearic Islands.
Traditional and lateen sailing will enjoy two events: the Diada de Vela Latina organised by the Club Náutico Cala Gamba, and the V Encuentro de Barcas Clásicas y Vela Latina de las Illes Balears (5th Meeting of Classic and Lateen Sailing Boats of the Balearic Islands) organised by the Club Náutico Ciutadella. In addition, the basic sailors will compete in the Balearic Optimist Championship at the Club Náutico s’Arenal.

In addition, the Balearic Islands Technification Centre will host the Spanish Modern Pentathlon Cup on the 1st of March. The Illes Balears MX Base Motocross will be held in Sant Josep de sa Talia, and in Ses Voltes de Palma the Mallorca Ball Championship of the Federación Balear de Tiro de Fona.
