President Galmés supports the residents of Son Macià to get Ca Ses Monges into public ownership
During the meeting, President Galmés pledged to act to ensure that this emblematic building can be a space for the people and for social use. In this sense, he has assured that, if necessary, the Consell de Mallorca ‘will carry out a rapid processing of the specific modification of urban planning to allow the change of use in the General Plan of Urban Planning of Manacor’.
In addition, the president of the Consell de Mallorca has announced that he will request a meeting with the Sisters of Charity, owners of the building, to convey to them ‘the importance of this space for the macianers and macianeres and mediate so that Ca Ses Monges is for the people’.
At the meeting, the neighbours expressed their firm desire for the convent to be a public building and recalled that Ca Ses Monges has historically had great social relevance in the town, as it was the sewing centre for the town’s children and was later transformed into a school, as well as providing care for the sick.
‘The importance of Ca Ses Monges for Son Macià, and the appreciation of its neighbours, is undeniable, and the Consell de Mallorca will do everything possible to preserve it for its people. We are a government team that is by the neighbours‘ side, listening to their demands,’ concluded President Galmés.
