The second edition of the Menorca Film Festival is here

It will open on Saturday the 8th of March at the Sala Multifuncional in Es Mercadal, and will continue the following day at the Auditorium in Ferreries.

For the second consecutive year, the Menorca Film Festival will be held on the island during the month of March. This second edition focuses on fiction films rooted in Menorca.

In this sense, on Saturday the 8th of March, the edition will be inaugurated at 7 pm in the Multifunctional Hall of Es Mercadal with a colloquium on film creation from Menorca, with the participation of filmmaker and actress Olivia Delcán (Mahón, 1992), filmmaker Rafa Anglada (Ciutadella9 and yor, 1995). Then, on the occasion of the candidacy for the 39th edition of the Goya Awards, the Feroz Awards and the 17th Gaudí Awards, the feature film ‘Un sol radiant’ (2024), by directors Mònica Cambra and Minorcan Ariadna Fortuny (Alaior, 1998), will be screened.

The Mostra will continue on Sunday, the 9th of March, at the Auditori de Ferreries, at 19.00 hours, where a series of short films rooted on the island, directed by Menorcan filmmakers or featuring actors and actresses from the island, will be presented. The short films to be presented are: ‘Hoy pienso mañana’, by Rafa Anglada, ‘Els Esvaïts’, by Mònica Cambra and Ariadna Fortuny, ‘El cuento de una noche de verano’, directed by Maria Herrera and featuring the actress Olivia Delcán, and the film starring the 9th, Tristán’, by Miguel Ibáñez Monroy. Finally, the short film ‘Azul Tierra’ by Mallorcan Marine Auclair (Capdepera) will be screened.

In the first edition, many films were screened under the title ‘Muestra de Cine Inmaterial’ (Immaterial Film Festival), about the theme of the programme. The titles screened were ‘Magí Moll, rompedor’ (2023), by Macià Florit Campins and ‘En Mesquida’ (2023), by Arnau Cloquells and Miquel Gomila, which represented the cinema of Menorca, while the Mallorcan Maria Cuennet Mas presented the film ‘2 Serra.

The Menorca Film Festival is an initiative of FAR Cultural with the collaboration of the Island Council of Menorca as part of the Balearic Islands Day activities. It arises from the demand of the film sector to have spaces to show the work that filmmakers, producers, actors and actresses of Menorca are developing within the film sector, produced on the island and abroad, as well as to give visibility to auteur cinema and emerging filmmakers.
