Eusèbia Rayó vindicates the role of women in medieval history at the Archive of the Kingdom of Mallorca
During her talk, Rayó dismantled the myth of the medieval world as a fairy tale, exposing the difficulties, sacrifices and influence of these women in history. She also stressed the importance of recovering their memory in order to better understand the past and vindicate their legacy.
Apart from her work as a historian, Rayó has been researching violence against women for years, taking part in several CONFERENCES on local studies. She also has an outstanding career as a fiction writer, with more than ten published works, some of which have won prizes such as the Guillem Cifre de Colonya and the Serra d’Or Critics’ Prize.
As part of this initiative, tomorrow at 11 a.m. the exhibition ‘Women and Queens of Mallorca’ will be inaugurated at Casal Balaguer in Palma, organised by the Regional Ministry of Families and Social Affairs, the Balearic Women’s Institute and the Balearic Studies Institute. This exhibition, in which Rayó has collaborated, highlights the historical importance of the women who exercised power in Mallorca.
The event ended with thanks to the director of the Archive of the Kingdom of Mallorca, Ricard Urgell, and his team, for their involvement in the dissemination of historical heritage and the promotion of spaces for learning and reflection.
