The platform incorporates a reorganisation of content and a more accessible design to facilitate the daily tasks of library staff.

The Consell de Mallorca is launching a new extranet to improve communication and internal management between the island’s public libraries. This new platform, completely renewed, replaces the previous virtual office of the Centre Coordinador de Biblioteques de Mallorca (CCBM), offering a more intuitive interface and optimised functionalities for a more efficient management.

With this update, the extranet will serve the 92 libraries integrated in the Xarxa de Biblioteques de Mallorca, as well as other libraries in the Balearic Islands. The project has been developed in collaboration with the Department of the Presidency, specifically with the Island Directorate of Modernisation, Transparency and Innovation, and with the Department of Culture.

The Consell de Mallorca modernises the communication between the libraries of Mallorca with a new extranet

The new extranet incorporates a reorganisation of content and a more accessible design to facilitate the daily tasks of library staff. Among the most notable improvements, this platform makes it possible to manage interlibrary loans and the return of material, reserve lots for reading clubs, register for training courses for professionals in the sector, request bibliographic materials and equipment, as well as access information on job offers and annual meetings of library staff.

The island’s director of Modernisation, Transparency and Innovation, Pep Cerdà, explained that ‘this new extranet is a step forward in the digitalisation of public services and reinforces the Consell de Mallorca’s commitment to innovation. Thanks to this tool, communication between libraries will be more agile, improving management and making the work of professionals more efficient. In addition, this project also reinforces support for culture, facilitating the dissemination and organisation of literary activities’.

The project updates a system that had not been renewed since 2006, adapting it to new digital standards and to the current needs of professionals in the sector.
